Book Reccomendation!

I recently finished reading Mother Teresa's Private Writings in the book "Come be my Light" by Fr Brian Kolodiejchuk which I have been reading since Christmas day! I really would reccomend spending a little time each day reading a couple of pages of it as I found it not only an amazing insight into Mother Teresa's holiness (she really is one of the top saints!) but such example and inspiration on humilty.

Because I read it over a few months I kept the 'atmosphere' of it in my mind every day and it really does have an atmosphere of its own. It's a subtle biography because the letters are compiled along the timeline that they were written, from Mother Teresa's call all the way through bravely setting the Missionaries of Charity up and going it alone, training to be a nurse so as to be able to help the poorest of the poor. I really began to feel that England, even just the average citizens are so rich after I was able to understand the poor of Calcutta.....a great eye-opener. Do give it a go! And although quite intense and spiritually deep, when taken a little at a time it is such an inspiration to grow in holiness and humility.

My 'Raymond de Souza' Trailer!

For my final assignment in my music composition degree I have collaborated with Catholic apologist Raymond de Souza of Saint Gabriel Communications and EWTN and have finished a short trailer to promote his ministry! I created the trailer and composed and scored the music to it:

video

As part of my degree course in Media Composition, I have been focussing on composing original music for Catholic Media Projects. My final task is to collaborate with someone in the Catholic Media. Raymond de Souza has been extremely helpful in this and I have really enjoyed not only composing an original music score, but designing a trailer which incorporates elements of Raymond defending the 'splendour of truth' at the same time as grabbing attention with current issues such as the Da Vinci code etc.. I think the finished result is quite exciting and I am looking forward to presenting it at Northbrook College during our Showcase week at the end of my course. Fingers crossed there will be many more Catholic's not only in the Media but in any ministry, in the future requiring similar original promotional features with completely original scores!

Our Lady's Chapel, Brighton

A few years ago Our Lady's Chapel in Saint Mary Magdalen's, Brighton was brought back to its original Medieval colours. Gary worked on the side Altar and the Altar for a month, picking out colours and matching original marbelling and gold leaf.

An Angelic Pub Sign

The Yarcombe Angel in Devon now has this Angelic image with which to draw folk into it's 14th Century walls. The image was created to specific designs and painted by Gary - it hangs before the pub and heralds the free house in Honiton which has a wonderful Medieval style function room.

Her Majesty's Prison, Bristol

If your Pro-Life marches end with a sentance in Bristol Prison then take heart - you may derive comfort from the beautiful paintings in the Bristol Prison Chapel which were commisioned by the Anglican Prison Chaplin to hang around the Prison Chapel. Gary's paintings, which depict scenes from the Life of Our Lord hang in Lewis, Belmarsh and Bristol Prisons and aid in the important Christian Prison Ministry.

Belmarsh Prison

If you are ever convicted for Pro-Life marches to serve a prison sentence in Belmarsh then fear not - you will be comforted in the prison chapel there by numerous works of art depicting scenes from the life of Our Lord. The Anglican prison chaplin requested several large scale paintings which were designed and painted in Gary's studio at home and then delivered or collected for Belmarsh. They are used in sermons for prisoners attending Masses or Services in the prison chapel and are vital visual aids for Catechises and meditation.

Divine Mercy Image

The Feast of the Divine Mercy is approaching and again the Day of Divine Mercy will be celebrated in Sussex at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, West Grinstead, where the image of Divine Mercy that will be venerated will be one painted by Gary (above). This is a faithful reproduction of the final Polish image and stands at approximately six feet high, transported in a specially crafted wooden box and secured on a specially made frame and stand (by Gary). The Day of Divine Mercy at West Grinstead is lovely and awesome and is a wonderful location in which to gather and celebrate this most important Feast. The image is usually situated during the day to the right of the altar.

Sedilia

Gary recently delivered his finished sedilia to a church in Leatherhead - the seats were commisioned to replace some simple, unattractive chairs. The new sedilia matches in design the windows in the church and were crafted by Gary who crafted and stained the wood and upholstered the centre seat in leather to the required designs. They are a welcome addition to the sanctuary. (Latin: Sedile - a seat).

A restored Statue

Last year Gary spent many long weeks at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in West Grinstead doing a lot of restorative work to the church interior. The work there included restoratio of the rerodos, the shrine statue (above), the High Altar - which was also guilded and re-marbelled - the heraldic shields and angels, ceiling bosses as well as restoring many of the inspiring statues and putting all the wrought-ironwork Consecration candles back.
